I Fell
in Love with Judaism at
Camp RJ.org: News & Views of Reform
Jews As Rabbi Amy
Schwartzman steers her two daughters
and overstuffed van into Camp Harlam, the memories
come back quickly: reading a poem in the chapel on
Shabbat; reminiscing with an old friend who now works in
the infirmary; and all those talks on the
bench under the pine trees
where she decided to become a
rabbi. Read more »
OSRUI
Staff: Heroes URJ Olin-Sang-Ruby Union
Institute While
firefighters rushed to the scene to extinguish a
fire in downtown Oconomowoc last week, some
unspoken heroes saved lives. Several OSRUI staff members
on a day off leaped into action when they saw smoke
coming from a nearby building, alerting people to
evacuate, holding ladders and even tending to a
wounded man. Read more »
A Model for Jewish
America URJ Jacobs
Camp This Fourth of July
was a "soulful expression of the heart across all
religious lines" as participants from an Orthodox
Jewish camp joined Reform campers at
Jacobs for an Americafest parade, inflatable
obstacle course and fireworks show. For campers
from both movements, it may have even been
"the highlight of the summer." Read

Creating
Community
URJ 6 Points Sports
Academy
After the
second Havdallah of the session, everyone at 6
Points goes to the lake, puts a floating candle into the
water and makes a wish. Director Randy Colman sees more
than simple tradition in this act: "We are like these
candles, and the lake is camp. We were placed here
individually, but [then] became a real
community." Read more »
The Power of
People NFTY Mitzvah
Corps Audrey Hertzberg knew
that Habitat for Humanity homeowners needed to put a
certain number of work hours into their homes to qualify
for the program, but she was still surprised by the
care, pride and skill Hussein put into his work.
Now, Audrey will never forget that every hinge in the
world had to be screwed in by someone. Read

The First Steps on our
Journey NFTY in
Israel
Chaperones
Rabbi Elliott Kleinman and Rabbi Eve Rudin have
joined three groups of NFTY in Israel teens in
Europe for the trip of a lifetime!
From a solemn
visit at Auschwitz-Birkenau to an energizing
teen-lead Shabbat in Poland, it's amazing to realize
that, upon touch down in Tel Aviv, their journey
has only just begun. Read more »

what a camp director does? Here's an exclusive

One Time, at Jewish Summer
Camp...
RJ.org: News & Views of Reform
Jews Some adults
might not understand why Rabbi Laura
Novak Winer volunteers two weeks of her
time every summer to teach at Camp Newman.
Here, she sums it up: there is joy in waking
up with a Jewish song in your head, staying up past
bedtime to laugh around a campfire and having
deep conversations that change lives. Read

A D'var Torah for NFTY's
Summer Home
NFTY, NFTY in Israel & URJ Kutz
Camp While walking around a
room at Kutz Camp filled with teens literally
holding up the Torah, NFTY President Evan
Traylor challenged his peers to create intentional
Jewish relationships. The catch? Those
relationships are not just between campers and
NFTYites, but with Jewish figures from our collective
past. Read

In case you
missed it, last week's most read
content in The
Clipboard included a reflection from the
Associate Dean of Hebrew Union College in LA
on returning to Kutz Camp to drop off her kids, the
story of Evan Traylor's journey from a junior youth
group event at camp to being elected NFTY North
American President, and a video of Eisner
Camp's high-energy opening day
ceremony.
