Often times it is the catastrophic events in our lives that force us to take notice of the things that are so truly important. This past week Mitch Perlmeter died. Mitch was a camper at Harlam most of his life and was to be a counselor this coming summer. To memorialize him and give voice to all who knew him Camp Harlam established a Remembering Mitch Facebook page. The entries from fellow campers, staff, faculty, parents and friends are heart wrenching, yet also beautiful and affirming. They speak of all that Mitch gave to others and in turn the blessings that Mitch bestowed on all of us. It is these communities we create that give meaning, depth and color to our lives and why we work so tirelessly to make URJ Camps available to all. We will truly miss Mitch’s energy and enthusiasm for camp and life, but through all of you his legacy continues.
